'Alpacas'

Adorable, docile and soft, alpacas are prized as pets and cattle around the world. There are no wild alpacas, they are domesticated versions of vicuñas, South American ruminants that live high in the Andes. Alpacas are raised mainly for their soft wool.

There are two breed of alpacas, the huacaya and the suri. The huacaya have fluffy hair, much like a teddy bear. The suri have long wavy hair that hangs off its body. Alpacas were domesticated by the Incas more than 6,000 years ago. They were mainly raised due to their incredible fleece. The fleece is known for its quality and elite characteristics.

Alpacas hum when they’re curious, worried, content, bored, fearful, distressed or cautious. They can be found in many different colors such as fawn, grey, brown, black, white and any different combination of these.

Alpacas are known to be very friendly with human children and very sociable with dogs, cats, horses, donkeys, sheep and goats, and can live to be 25 years old, and able to survive in almost all climates.

 

Their cute and quirky characteristics and looks, inspired me to create this fun painting, designed to bring a smile to all those who view it.
